Palestrina

Ancient Praeneste was an independent civilisation which occupied a strategic node above the valley uniting the Etruscans to the north and the Greek world of Campania to the south. The wealth of Praeneste is displayed in the vast temple complex dedicated to Fortuna Primagenia which was built climbing up the hillside in the second century BC. It uses cutting edge concrete technology, and was decorated with a spectacular mosaic showing the Nile which was the work of Greek artists brought to what is now a sleepy little town from the great hub of Alexandria.
